Based on our observations from recent games and practices, we’ve updated the Detroit Lions depth chart for 2023.

In Week 11, the Detroit Lions (7-2) host the Chicago Bears (3-7) at Ford Field. Despite having returned from their bye week, the Lions made a few roster tweaks this week, and we’ve been keeping track of all the roster and depth chart changes.

We have sorted all players by position and listed them in order of perceived importance to the squad in this updated look at the Lions’ depth chart. We listed each player’s number next to their name, bolded the anticipated starters, emphasized injured players, and included an asterisk* after the rookies’ names to improve your viewing experience.

On Sunday, the Detroit Lions will face the Chicago Bears. While the Bears aren’t exactly known for their high-octane attack, the Lions’ defense is under scrutiny after allowing the Chargers to score 38 points on them last week.

And the Bears have some offensive weapons that the Lions will need to slow down. The Chicago Bears’ rushing offense, which includes Khalil Herbert, D’Onta Foreman, and, of course, quarterback Justin Fields, is one of the most dangerous in the NFL. And now that Fields is back behind center, Chicago has someone who is willing and capable of throwing the long ball. D.J. Moore, who was averaging over 100 yards per game while Fields was healthy, might become a force to be reckoned with as a result.

Which Detroit Lions defender will be the most crucial against the Chicago Bears?
My response: I purposefully chose Cameron Sutton as the lead image. The Lions’ starting cornerback will almost certainly have to line up over Moore for the bulk of the game. Moore, in my opinion, is one of the few players who can truly influence the outcome of a game for Chicago. Sutton struggled against Keenan Allen last week, so he’ll need a strong rebound game.

However, I believe the Lions’ second line of defense will be even more important in this game. Whether it’s preventing Fields from scrambling for 100 yards, playing aggressively in the run game to stifle Chicago’s running attack, or even covering an undervalued weapon in Cole Kmet, the Lions’ linebacking corps will be under a lot of pressure this game.

So, I believe Alex Anzalone is the most important piece of Detroit’s defensive strategy. The Lions have been employing Anzalone more and more in their blitz packages, and if they do so again, he will have to make the most of his chances against Fields. He is not an easy quarterback to stop.
