The Warriors, who have lost five straight games, could surely use Steph Curry back on the court.
That might happen when the Golden State Warriors play the Oklahoma City Thunder at Chase Center on Saturday night, as coach Steve Kerr said on 95.7 The Game on Friday that things are looking up for the star point guard.
“He’s feeling a lot better and went through all of practice,” Kerr said on the “Willard and Dibs” show. “The plan is to just see how he feels in the morning, but I believe he’ll play [Saturday].”
Curry has missed the Warriors’ last two games due to right knee pain after appearing to injure himself in a tumble against the Minnesota Timberwolves this past Sunday. Golden State stated on Wednesday afternoon that an MRI on Curry’s knee indicated no structural injury and that the nine-time NBA All-Star would be assessed later in the week.
Curry is labeled as questionable for the Warriors-Thunder game on Saturday morning. Gary Payton II has been declared out of the game with a left foot injury after injured it in Golden State’s loss to Oklahoma City on Thursday.
“He rolled his ankle pretty badly coming down on Chet Holmgren’s foot,” Kerr explained to “Willard and Dibs” about Payton’s injury. “As a result, he was in a boot today. He got an MRI; it didn’t appear too bad on the imaging, but he’ll be out at least tomorrow, and then it’ll be day to day from there.
The Warriors will surely miss Payton on the court on Saturday, especially on defense, after the Thunder hit 19 3-pointers against them in Thursday’s loss. Curry’s anticipated return would give a much-needed offensive spark for Golden State on the opposite end of the court, where the Warriors are shooting 33.8 percent from 3-point range and 41.4 percent overall in Curry’s absence.
On Saturday, the Warriors will seek to snap a five-game losing run against the Thunder, with complete NBC Sports Bay Area coverage beginning at 4:30 p.m. PT with “Warriors Pregame Live” and tip-off at 5:30 p.m. PT.
