After winning a game last week, the Chicago Bears are on a roll. Can they beat the 7-2 Lions and keep their winning streak going?
They will face the hot Detroit Lions (-7.5) in one of their most tough games of the season.
They are now 7-2 in the NFC North. The Bears are a touchdown underdog against their division opponent, but there is still hope when Justin Fields returns after missing the previous four games due to a thumb injury.
To help us anticipate this battle, we spoke with Ryan Mathews of Pride of Detroit, who gave us the lowdown on the Lions and helped you get ready for Sunday’s game.
1. As two organizations that have repeatedly spent time together in the bottom of the NFC standings over the last several years, the Lions’ recovery can give Bears fans hope. What do you believe is the primary reason for the Lions’ comeback and success in 2023?
Sticking to the strategy is critical to the Lions ultimately turning a corner in 2023. This makeover began in 2021, when general manager Brad Holmes and head coach Dan Campbell arrived in town. Sticking to a plan, of course, is what got the Lions into such a mess in the first place, and both Holmes and Campbell had to pick up the pieces left behind by the Boston Boys-the
Getting the appropriate hires at the top is critical and cannot be stressed. The Lions needed to focus cultural rehabilitation. Campbell is the polar opposite of the type of leader Patricia was in Detroit, and some questioned whether the move was overly focused on a course correction there. But what had to be considered was the kind of partnership Holmes and Campbell had developed, working together to establish and grow a roster in their shared vision. We’re finally witnessing the rewards of three years of hard work in 2023.
