Good News: As the Cardinals’ top prospect’s stock rises, he wins the Minor League Gold Glove Award.

The 2023 season for the St. Louis Cardinals was, to put it mildly, disappointing, and it is impossible to take anything positive away from it.

Fortunately, the Cardinals have a strong talent farm system, giving St. Louis hope for the future and alternatives heading into the offseason.

According to Daniel Johnson of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, one prospect in the Cardinals farm system is getting noticed for his remarkable defensive skills.

Guerrero reported Tuesday that “(Victor) Scott (II) was awarded the Rawlings Minor League Gold Glove for his play in center field.”

Scott had only three mistakes and a 0.99 fielding percentage in 1,130 1/3 innings between Class High-A Peoria and Double-AA Springfield in 2023.

With his glove, speed on the basepath, and consistency at the plate, the 22-year-old stud is creating a name for himself in just his second season in the game.

Five Cardinals win 2021 NL Gold Glove Awards

The young center fielder stole 94 bases in 108 attempts and had 166 hits, which was second most in Minor League Baseball in 2023, following only fellow Cardinals prospect Thomas Saggese, who had 170.

In 132 games, Scott hit.303 with 39 extra-base hits, including nine home runs, 63 RBIs, and a.794 OPS. With his exceptional baserunning and Gold Glove defense, he’s become one of the system’s top all-around players. According to MLB Pipeline, Scott is currently ranked fourth in the Cardinals’ development system.

The Cardinals have a multitude of outfielders, with Lars Nootbar appearing to have center field locked down when healthy, but he might push his way up to the 40-man roster due to potential trades and impending injuries.

Scott may not be called up just yet because he has more to prove, but it appears that he will suit up for the Cardinals in the near future.
