CBS PHILADELPHIA – This season, the Philadelphia Eagles have put on a show on the field.
They did, however, walk the runway on Monday night.
The Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence Fashion Touchdown returned to South Philly after a three-year break.
“Tonight’s event is prob
ably our biggest event of the year,” Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence president Marcus Allen said.
Boyd’s, perhaps the city’s finest men’s and women’s luxury boutique, provided the attire worn by the models for the fashion portion of the celebrations, which included a runway display. They wanted to give back in a more real way as they celebrated their 85th anniversary.
“We want to support the future of the city and the kids who are going to make this city that much greater, and obviously, we’re delighted to be a part of the event tonight but more so, what’s more important to us is the mentorship program we’re establishing with the kids who are a part of the program for the reason,” said Alex Gushner, the owner of Show-Boyd
What about the football part? Members of the 8-1 Eagles, notably cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry, as well as running back Boston Scott, contributed to that.
Former Philadelphia Eagle Brian Westbrook was also present.
“It was my first time doing a fashion show, so it was something new for me,” Slay explained.
There were also stylish attendees who did not run famous clothing companies or play football.
But what about the silent auction, the step-and-repeat, the flash and glamour? Big Brothers Big Sisters Independence is all about the children.
“We believe now more than ever it’s time for us to spotlight what kids are going through,” Allen was quoted as saying. “And what better way to do that than with some tough underdogs like the Eagles?” We developed a program called Big Cousins, in which we create activities for children who are waiting for a big. The funds generated tonight will be donated to
