PITTSBURGH, PA — Former Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James has rejoined the NFL’s practise squad, joining the Las Vegas Raiders.
James, 29, was a fifth-round pick of the Steelers in the 2015 NFL Draught and spent four seasons with the team. From 2015 to 2018, he caught 120 passes for 1,189 yards and nine touchdowns before joining the Detroit Lions on a four-year, $22.6 million contract.
James was with the Lions for only two seasons before being released at the end of the 2020 season. Following his release, he spent a year with the Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns. He’s played 58 games since leaving Pittsburgh, catching 37 catches for 333 yards and three scores.
James suffered a season-ending knee injury last season, but he appears to be healthy and eager to reclaim his spot on an active NFL squad. He’ll have the rest of the season in Las Vegas to do so.
