PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pittsburgh Steelers used a first-round pick on a quarterback last year, but there’s a chance they’ll make a bid for a former first-overall pick in the summer.

Kyler Murray’s future with the Arizona Cardinals is uncertain, and he could end up with another team in 2024. If that’s the case, the Steelers are among the top five clubs expected to sign the five-year veteran.
The Steelers presently have 9/1 odds, tied with the Washington Commanders, to sign Murray by next season, according to BetOnline.ag. Only the New England Patriots (5/1), Tennessee Titans (11/2), New York Giants (6/1) and Atlanta Falcons (7/1) are ahead of them.

Murray, who missed the first half of the season while rehabbing from ACL surgery, is scheduled to make his 2023 debut this week. Since being chosen in 2019, the former first-round pick has appeared in 57 games, throwing for 13,848 yards and 84 touchdowns to 41 interceptions. He has also scored 23 running touchdowns.

The two-time Pro Bowler has a 25-31-1 record as a starter for the Cardinals, but he did help them win two games in 2020 and 2021.

The Steelers look to be enthusiastic about Kenny Pickett and what his potential is once he’s completely developed. So, if the opportunity to sign Murray came knocking, it’s debatable whether they’d consider it.
