Even though the Philadelphia Eagles are on a bye week, cornerback rumours are expected to heat up. The Eagles have many injuries at the position.
Matt Holder of Bleacher Report suggests at least a temporary remedy. Former Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Bryce Callahan, according to the NFL analyst, would be a wonderful match in Philadelphia.
“The Eagles were already thin at slot corner with Avonte Maddox tearing a pec, and that was before Bradley Roby, who was signed after Maddox went down, missed his third game in a row,” Holder said in an email on November 6, 2023. “Adding Callahan now would give Callahan a bye week to catch up.”
“Also, the corner has played for Vic Fangio or Fangio’s disciples throughout his career, and Sean Desai comes from that coaching tree, so the learning curve shouldn’t be too steep for him.”
Eagles Rumors: Potential Philadelphia Target Bryce Callahan Has 56 NFL Starts
The Eagles are 8-1 coming into the bye week, making it difficult to be concerned about some of the roster issues. Nonetheless, Dallas had success against Philadelphia’s secondary.
It’s alarming that the Eagles allowed Dak Prescott to throw for 374 yards and three touchdowns. Because of this, as well as cornerback injuries, Philadelphia may consider bringing in an experienced defender sooner rather than later.
Callahan most recently had 47 tackles, 6 pass deflections, and a career-high 3 interceptions in 15 appearances (11 starts) for the Chargers in 2022. The veteran has previously played for the Bears and the Broncos. Callahan will arrive in Philadelphia (if signed) with the benefit of 56 NFL starts under his belt.
Philadelphia would very certainly be able to sign Callahan on a low-cost contract. Los Angeles signed the cornerback to a one-year, $1.2 million contract in 2022.
