The 2023 NFL regular season is halfway done, with nine weeks completed and nine weeks remaining. With the Philadelphia Eagles on bye this week, let’s take a look at some of the records that some of its players and coaches could break this season.
• Jalen Hurts has 2,347 throwing yards on the season, putting him on pace for 4,433 yards. Carson Wentz currently holds the Eagles’ single-season throwing yardage record with 4,039 yards in 2019.
• Hurts has already surpassed Randall Cunningham for the most career rushing touchdowns by a quarterback in team history this season. He has 33 running touchdowns in his career. Here are the all-time leaders in quarterback rushing touchdowns:
Player | Rushing TDs |
Cam Newton | 75 |
Josh Allen | 44 |
Steve Young | 43 |
Jack Kemp | 40 |
Steve McNair | 37 |
Tobin Rote | 37 |
Michael Vick | 36 |
Aaron Rodgers | 35 |
Randall Cunningham | 35 |
Steve Grogan | 35 |
Daunte Culpepper | 34 |
Jalen Hurts | 33 |
John Elway | 33 |
Otto Graham | 33 |
Y.A. Tittle | 33 |
If Hurts stays healthy, he’ll be in the top five on the aforementioned list at the end of the season, at the age of 25.
• Hurts has 7 rushing touchdowns this season, putting him on pace for 13, the same number he had in 2022. Cam Newton holds the single-season NFL record for a quarterback with 14 touchdowns. (With playoffs included, Hurts holds this record with 18 rushing touchdowns in 2022.)
• A.J. Brown has 1,005 receiving yards on the season, putting him on pace for 1,898. Brown already holds the Eagles’ single-season receiving yardage record, with 1,496 yards in 2022. Calvin Johnson holds the NFL single-season receiving yards record with 1,964 yards in 2012. The top five receiving yards seasons of all time:
Player | Receiving yards |
Calvin Johnson, Lions, 2012 | 1,964 |
Cooper Kupp, Rams. 2021 | 1,947 |
Julio Jones, Falcons, 2015 | 1,871 |
Jerry Rice, 49ers, 1995 | 1,848 |
Antonio Brown, Steelers, 2015 | 1,834 |
Brown will finish third on that list if he maintains his present pace.
• Brown has 67 receptions on the season, putting him on pace for 127. Zach Ertz holds the Eagles’ single-season receiving record with 116 receptions in 2018. If he continues at this rate, he will also make the NFL’s all-time top ten list:

Michael Thomas, Saints, 2019 | 149 |
Cooper Kupp, Rams, 2021 | 145 |
Marvin Harrison, Colts, 2002 | 143 |

Stefon Diggs, Bills, 2020 | 127 |
Michael Thomas, Saints, 2018 | 125 |

• Despite missing two games, Reed Blankenship leads all NFL safety with ten pass breakups. He’s on track to break up 19 passes. This is a newer statistic, considering the NFL just began tracking pass breakups in 1999. Brian Dawkins is the only NFL safety since 1999 to have 20 or more pass breakups in a season, with 24 in both 1999 and 2005.
• Jake Elliott has 80 points on the season, putting him on pace for 151. Cody Parkey leads the Eagles in single-season points with 150 in 2014.
• Among Eagles head coaches who have coached at least one complete season, Nick Sirianni presently has the highest winning %. Bo McMillin (2-0), Fred Bruney (1-0), and Pat Shurmur (1-0) are the Eagles’ three unbeaten temporary head coaches.
Sirianni has a career winning percentage of 0.721 with a record of 31-12. Greasy Neale had a score of 63-43-5 (0.590) and Andy Reid had a score of 130-93-1 (0.583). Even if the Eagles finish 0-8 in 2023, Sirianni will still have the best winning % in Eagles history.
