After just a few plays on Monday, future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ much-anticipated New York Jets debut was cut short by an injury that might have terminated the season.
On the opening series for New York, Buffalo Bills linebacker Leonard Floyd sacked Aaron Rodgers, making it difficult for the former Green Bay Packers signal caller to leave the pitch at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Zach Wilson, a former Jets starter, took his spot and carried him off the pitch. With a boot on his left foot and lower leg, Aaron Rodgers was seen by “Monday Night Football” cameras hobbling into the Jets’ locker room.
X-rays revealed there had been no break, but the Jets said he would not play the remaining minutes of the match, which New York ultimately won 22-16 in overtime. With a 65-yard punt return by Xavier Gipson, the Jets won the game.
The team worries Rodgers may have had a severe Achilles tear, which would keep him out of the game for the whole season, according to New York coach Robert Saleh.
After the game, Saleh told reporters, “MRI is probably going to confirm what we think is already going to happen, so prayers tonight but it’s not good.”
That is a bad aspect. I’m going to celebrate my victory. It’s difficult to win in the NFL no matter who your quarterback is. For myself, I don’t feel hurt. I’m not hurting for our changing area. I feel bad for Aaron because of his deep involvement in this. Thus, even though my heart is with Aaron at this moment, I will continue to pray and hope.”
After Rodgers was injured, Gipson said that the team’s “energy kind of got low”.
Just after the win, Gipson told ESPN, “In my mind, I’m thinking like let’s win this game for Aaron Rodgers.” “He puts a lot of effort into his work. He was a hard worker all week.”
During his four snaps on Monday night, Aaron Rodgers gained 26 yards by passing the ball to running back Breece Hall, missed a pass, and was penalised five yards by the Bills prior to being sack.
After earning four NFL MVP trophies, Rodgers, 39, had been a member of the Packers for his entire career. On February 6, 2011, after Green Bay defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31–25, he was named the MVP of the Super Bowl.
Apart from his skill, Rodgers has demonstrated consistent durability, starting at least 15 games in 13 of the last 15 seasons.
