After suffering a severe ankle injury earlier in the season, Stephen Welsh has made his first appearance back on the training pitch at Lennoxtown. The athlete was diagnosed with an ankle injury just after he inked a contract extension with his hometown team.

When Brendan Rodgers returned to the Parkhead club in the summer, he was faced with an increasing injury crisis. The Scottish defender’s problems compounded that headache. Maik Nawrocki and Cameron Carter-Vickers both suffered serious injuries, so the manager was left rushing to find a seasoned centre defence before the transfer window closed.

Eventually, he managed to get his hands on Nat Phillips of Liverpool, who hasn’t played much lately because of Liam Scales’s improved play, which has been the biggest surprise of the season thus far. In Cameron Carter-Vickers’ absence, the Irishman has dramatically stepped up to help steady the ship and keep things going along pleasantly.

Stephen Welsh has made his first outing back on the Lennoxtown training pitch since sustaining a serious ankle injury earlier in the season. Soon after the player signed a contract extension with his local team, he was diagnosed with an ankle injury.

We’ve been lucky enough not to have to deal with life without our star defender for as long as we would have had to, as Cameron Carter-Vickers returned to action earlier than expected.

Scales and his American colleague appear to be developing a strong rapport, and if anyone wants to push him out of the starting lineup, it will take some doing. There has never been more competition for spots in central defence, with players like Welsh, Kobayashi, Phillips, and Nawrocki standing by in the wings.

Welsh appears to have returned to the training field and will likely try to accelerate his recuperation in the coming days and weeks, according to Celtic’s regular footage from Lennoxtown.

Celtic defender Maik Nawrocki returns to training

As we come closer to the end of the season, this will offer Rodgers even more alternatives on defence and possibly even enable him to further rotate his team. Welsh is hoping that he can take part in the process and that everything goes according to plan with his return.
