It’s not until you lose a player of Wesley Fofana’s calibre that you tend to realise just how vital they are to your team. In this instance that side is the Foxes. The youthful yet supremely talented defender will be more than missed as Brendan Rodgers’ recruitment staff failed to secure a central defensive target, even for backup.

An underwhelming Ryan Bennett switch comes to mind; though hopefully LCFC can acquire one or two better options than the onetime Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee. There are now a host of Leicester-linked defensive men; Foxes of Leicester will cover all of those over the next day or so.

Let’s move focus back to Fofana now as Rodgers informed media of the approximate length of the Frenchman’s absence, with surgery to be performed on Monday:“Fofana has his operation on Monday and he won’t play until 2022.

“At what point that will be, we’ll have to assess that in the next six months or so.

“In and around his medial ligament, there was a lot more damage there than we’d hoped. The scan showed up it was quite substantial damage there.”

Apparently the quest to finally sign a sufficient right-wingman is no longer a priority due to the injury to Fofana in the already deficient centre-back area. Unfortunately the east Midlands outfit failed to resolve the issue and are now in a particularly awkward position.

Hopefully one or two centre-halves arrive at King Power Stadium, or somebody such as Filip Benkovic can step up, because this is a major issue. Wilfred Ndidi was expected to fill in for Jonny Evans and Fofana. As proficient as Ndidi is, he would have been a major loss in centre-midfield; meanwhile Daniel Amartey played the game of his career in the Community Shield triumph.
