Following the Whites’ 4-1 win over Huddersfield on October 28, a BBC Leeds journalist stated that the Whites manager had no big concerns regarding the vital pair ahead of their clash with the runaway Championship leaders.
Summerville scored twice and assisted the other two for Dan James in a first-half dismantling of the Terriers that ended 4-1, before being replaced on the hour by Willy Gnonto.
The Dutch winger had been dropped to the bench for the defeat to Stoke City in midweek as Farke revealed a preseason injury meant he was unable to start every game currently [Phil Hay, 25 October] so went off to protect him from that issue.
Rodon was also replaced by captain Liam Cooper, shortly after Summerville went off, with a suspected hamstring problem but the manager appears to expect it to be a minor one.
The performance in the first 45 minutes at Elland Road was the best the Whites have played this season, even if the visitors offered virtually nothing.
A drop in intensity after the break coupled with changes to the line up saw the performance become more disjointed, and highlighted the difference in levels between the first-choice XI and the back ups at the moment.
In that sense it would be a definite boost to have both Summerville and Rodon available for the trip to the top side on Friday (3 November).
Summerville, who turns 22 on Monday, has now been involved in six Leeds United goals in his past two starts, and with Dan James and Georginio Rutter has formed a dynamic attacking unit.
Gnonto may have proven his ability for the Whites in the past but he is in nowhere near the same form currently, and neither is loanee Jaidon Anthony.
Rodon has a claim to being the most important signing of the summer given the stability he brings to the back line compared to when he is missing, so if his problem isn’t serious it will be a bullet dodged.
After the set back at Stoke in midweek this easy win was exactly what Farke would have been looking for to get back on track, even if the second half proved an anticlimax.
