The Orlando Magic’s victory over the Houston Rockets in the season’s first game was very straightforward. The offence moved effortlessly, and the ball moved with it. The defence came together and produced some incredible, game-changing plays. Everyone appeared to eat and finish their food.
If only everything could be so simple.
In their game on Friday at Moda Centre against the Portland Trail Blazers, the Orlando Magic had a few moments and opportunities where it appeared like they might be able to blow past them. However, the Blazers would realign the deficit each time it appeared as though the Magic might blow it wide open. It was inevitable that the Magic would make some errors.

The Orlando Magic defeated the Portland Trail Blazers in a gruelling game to get to 2-0, but it was not an easy victory to obtain.
Ultimately, the Magic had the plays required to secure the victory. The majority of them occurred as Orlando shut down Portland on defence, building from an 82-80 advantage at the beginning of the quarter to as much as 13 in the final frame. With three minutes remaining in the quarter, Portland was down to just six points.
However, Portland managed to close the gap to three points as Orlando’s offence faltered and was unable to produce enough points to put the game comfortably out of reach.
Fortunately, the defence held firm. With the Magic leading five, Jalen Suggs produced back-to-back outstanding defensive plays. The last one was dragging a chair on Jerami Grant to force a jump ball, which allowed the Magic to win.

In addition to recording two blocks and four steals, Jalen Suggs also recorded the last stop on Jerami Grant. Wendell Carter, on the other hand, performed excellent defence the entire game, vertically guarding the rim. Carter blocked multiple shots near the rim but did not register a block.
Orlando has discussed developing an outstanding defence during the preseason and offseason. That was the season’s objective and a key component of the team’s motto this year.
They have started the season with a bang, conceding fewer than 100 points in both of their games. That is encouraging for the team’s future.
In charge of the lead
The Orlando Magic have also stated that they have worked on playing with a lead. Instructor
All the Magic have to do is keep learning this lesson. The Portland Trail Blazers were able to close the gap on several occasions, but the Orlando Magic had numerous double-digit advantages.
The Magic performed a fantastic job of holding onto the lead the entire time, ultimately winning the match. However, the team never managed to get a comfortable enough space from the Blazers. Portland was always reachable. It was just too late for the Blazers.
