Current Nottingham Forest news as Steve Cooper’s team gets ready for their Premier League matchup against Liverpool
With Sunday’s match against Liverpool, head coach Steve Cooper says Nottingham Forest is worried about Anthony Elanga’s health.
The Reds travel to Anfield after a frustrating 2-2 draw against Luton Town at home. Forest, who have gained 10 points from their first nine games, now has five games without a victory.
Elanga contributed both assists against the Hatters, but his health will prevent him from playing this weekend. Cooper’s attacking options would be severely limited if he were to miss time, as Callum Hudson-Odoi (hamstring) and Divock Origi (hip) both sustained injuries last week, and striker Taiwo Awoniyi has been sidelined since a groin issue against Brentford.
Cooper remarked, “It is obviously frustrating that nobody is going to go back to the starting lineup, especially at the top of the pitch where we are limited in options due to player availability.” “Anthony has also been sick for a few days. He’ll be ready for the game, touch and go.
“We are unsure if he will be available to start, even if he is available. That would be unfortunate because he was excellent against Luton. He is definitely doubtful because playing in the Premier League puts a lot of physical strain on players.
Gonzalo Montiel (calf) remains out of action for Forest, but other full-back Nuno Tavares (groin), midfielder Danilo (hamstring), and center-back Felipe (knee) have all participated in training this week. Danilo has not played for the first team this season after being sent off against Chelsea, and Tavares was replaced against Manchester City. Felipe has not played for the first team yet.
Cooper stated, “They are back in part-training, not full training.” Since Danilo has been absent for what seems like a long time, we must exercise caution when reintegrating him.
They participated in a few warm-ups and a few non-contact drills. I hope that’s the next phase of their healing.
