Britt Assombalonga will be out of action for a YEAR after suffering a knee injury in Wednesday night’s win over Wigan Athletic.
The Nottingham Forest striker required surgery after falling to the ground after taking a shot in the 3-0 victory at the City Ground.
Both Forest and Wigan players immediately called to the sidelines for treatment for the 22-year-old, who was in obvious discomfort on the edge of the penalty area.
Assombalonga had scored the opening goal in the game earlier in the night.
But the striker stomached up the courage to give a smile for the camera after surgery on Thursday night, posting his thanks for the well wishes.
He said on Instagram: “Thanks for all the messages. Just want to say surgery was successful. Onwards and upwards.”
The injury leaves Forest with only three recognised strikers, while the club remain under an embargo for breaching Financial Fair Play regulations.
New manager Dougie Freedman told BBC Radio Nottingham: “It’s part of the game, but part of the game I don’t like.
“It’s very disappointing. We have to make sure we are very supportive of him.
“He is a huge player for us – a goalscorer and I felt I could have tided up his game a bit too.”
After two wins in his first two games in charge, Freedman has led Forest to 12 points off the play-off places and 10 above the relegation zone.
