For the most part, the Milwaukee Bucks’ preseason was proceeding as expected. This was prior to Terry Stotts abruptly deciding, only one week prior to the start of the regular season, to resign from his position as the team’s assistant coach. The Bucks suffered a significant loss, particularly considering that Stotts was expected to play a key role in Green Bay Packers.s adjustment to his new team.
Due to the fact that Lillard coached Dame for almost ten years with the Portland Trail Blazers, Stotts was seen as a crucial component. After joining the Bucks earlier this summer, Sotts was said to be overjoyed when Milwaukee acquired his former star player in a blockbuster trade.
Reports state that Stotts made his choice to quit soon after an incident that occurred during practise. According to reports, Stotts received a yell from head coach Adrian Gryphon for declining to enter the coach’s huddle. It seems that Stotts preferred to talk to Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Even though we can’t say with certainty whether the Gryphon incident influenced Stotts’ decision to step down, the fact remains that he is no longer a member of the team.
Before his abrupt departure, an NBA insider claims that Stotts was anticipated to be a key member of the team this season:
however, Stotts was expected to play a significant part in [the Bucks’] offensive, the insider informed Heavy Sports’ Steve Bulpett.
The insider continued by stating that there’s a good chance Stotts wasn’t enjoying his job as an assistant coach:
He remarked, “It looked like he was struggling to get used to being an assistant again.” “I believe that played a role.
“He doesn’t need the money; he was out for two years.” Perhaps it was just something he wasn’t feeling.
From 2012 until 2021, Stotts was the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers before joining the Bucks. Although Stotts has experience in this capacity, it’s possible that his nine years as Portland’s head coach made him believe that the assistant position is no longer appropriate for him at this stage of his career. Naturally, this is assuming that the data from the aforementioned source is accurate.
