Coventry City suffered a “unjustified” defeat at the hands of survival rivals Nottingham Forest, according to manager Mark Robins.

The Sky Blues were defeated 2-1 at St Andrew’s on a night when Amadou Bakayoko was knocked out cold in the dying minutes and midfielder Ben Sheaf limped off at halftime with a hamstring injury.

Bakayoko’s injury came after a clash with Brice Samba, the Reds’ keeper immediately waving frantically to the bench for urgent medical assistance for the striker who lay unconscious in the penalty box.

He was treated for almost eight minutes on the pitch before being stretchered off and the game allowed to carry on for the final few minutes.

Asked about the player’s condition, manager Mark Robins said: “He’s has woken up now and he’s in the ambulance on his way to hospital and I think they’re going to keep him in overnight.

“Hopefully he’s going to be okay, the physio seems quite positive about it.”

As for the game, in which City took the lead through Max Biamou, only for Forest to equalise five minutes later through Lewis Grabban in the first half before a Michael Rose own goal handed the points to the visitors, Robins said: “The first-half we were poor, the only bit of football we played that was like us ended up with Max scoring.

“The two goals were really poor. We can’t concede goals like that and they know that.

“Rosey was coming on cold fresh from an injury. We’ve got to get players fit through games, other than that he was outstanding, his use of the ball was magnificent.
