JUST IN: Aston Villa’s primary player was on the sidelines until 2024.

According to sources in Belgium, Aston Villa forward Wesley Moraes will miss the remainder of the season after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

The Brazilian got off to a great start in 2020, scoring in the first half of Burnley’s triumph at Turf Moor.

However, after a heavy tackle from Burnley defender Ben Mee, Villa’s club record signing went down in agony. He was quickly stretchered off from the field of play, with Dean Smith confirming he would be sent for a scan shortly after.

After the game, Smith said: “We’re not sure what the prognosis as of yet obviously, we will let them have a scan and see from there.

“Wesley felt something following the tackle from Ben Mee.

“Too early to know, but our medical staff are with them now.

“When he started the game, I knew he was in it.” He’s had a shot saved by the keeper, one flash wide, and he got his goal, so I’m extremely happy for him, but he’s had bad luck with the injuries.”

According to sources from Belgium, where Wesley has spent the majority of his career, he could be out for up to nine months after ripping his posterior cruciate ligament.
