“I’ve signed a new contract with the Club, and I’m really excited for 2024!”

Brenden Santi, an Italian international and former forward for the Wests Tigers, has signed a new deal to play rugby league until 2024.

Santi, 30, signed a short-term contract with the York Knights in June and will return for the upcoming campaign. The Knights play in the second division of the English Super League, the Betfred Championship (often called the Rugby Football League Championship).

Santi, an NRL forward and former captain of the Australian Schoolboys, represented his country, Italy, in three Rugby League World Cups. He also played 11 games for the Wests Tigers in 2014 and 2015.

Additionally, he played for a while with the Parramatta Eels (2014) and the Canterbury Bulldogs junior system, however he did not record a single game.

During his career, he also played for the Newcastle Thunder, Toulouse Olympique in France, Keighley Cougars, Townsville Blackhawks in the Queensland Cup, and Newcastle Thunder. On the club’s website, he declared, “I’m really excited for 2024 and I’m delighted to have signed a new deal here with the Club!”

“Since arriving from Keighley, this place has instantly felt like home, with a fantastic group of guys.”

“I’ve had a great time thus far, and we had a lot of momentum at the conclusion of the previous season to make it to the Play-Offs.

“I find everything about York to be incredibly intriguing, and I believe that after last year’s Play-Offs, there are still some loose ends. In 2024, maybe, we can advance even further.”

Speaking on Santi’s recommitment to the team, York Knights head coach Andrew Henderson discussed how the team hopes to improve in 2024 after making it to the Betfred Championship Play-Offs and winning ten of their previous 11 games.

“I’m thrilled to be able to watch Brenden continue his journey with the York Knights and to have secured his services for the 2024 season.”

“Having worked with Brenden previously and knowing the kind of player and person he is, I had no hesitation in bringing him in when he became available midway through the previous season.

“After joining the Club, Brenden handled himself incredibly well. He significantly improved our forward line and helped us at the perfect moment in the season.

“Brenden is another player who wants to support us in our goals of winning the Betfred Super League and be a part of our journey.”
