Today’s TeamTalk has an outstanding exclusive report that Manchester City’s central midfielder Kalvin Phillips wants to join Newcastle in January.

Newcastle are looking for a replacement for central midfielder Sandro Tonali, who is expected to be banned for a year – worldwide – for his illegal gambling, to which he has already confessed. And news today that Newcastle’s Sporting Director Dan Ashworth has already met with Phillips’ representatives – CAA Stellar. The news is that the 30 times-capped England International is keen to move to Newcastle, as he wants to cement his place in the England squad for the Euro 2024 Championships in Germany next summer. The other news is that he has been told by City manager Pep Guardiola that he is not in his future plans and Phillips is now looking for a new club.

It’s encouraging to see Newcastle move so swiftly.

England’s 3-1 win over Italy at Wembley on Tuesday night qualified them for the Euro 2024 finals in Germany next summer.
After England’s 3-1 victory, Kalvin had this to say:

“As a football player you always want to be playing,” “I’d like to play as much as possible, but I haven’t done so in a year and a half.”

“I always try to be prepared for whatever comes my way.” I want minutes and to attend the Euros. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.”

Phillips signed a 6-year, £45 million contract with City in July 2022.

But, as is often the case when joining a large club like Manchester City, Phillips has not been able to establish himself as a starter.
He’s also had a couple injuries along the line, which hasn’t helped.
His annual salary is estimated to be £150,000, and he may even agree take a minor pay cut to join Newcastle.

Maybe.
