Chuffed Mikel Arteta believes Rangers have signed a ‘phenomenal’ manager in Philippe Clement and believes he can duplicate his trophy-winning record in Glasgow.

The Spaniard spent two years at Ibrox and is up to date on happenings in Govan, so much so that he uses the term “we,” and is completely confident James Bisgrove and the board made a wise decision in signing Clement, who left Monaco at the end of last season. But it was in his home country of Belgium that the 49-year-old established his value, winning three successive titles at Genk and Brugge.

And speaking ahead of his side’s clash with Chelsea, the former Ibrox star was asked about the managerial appointment in Glasgow and said: “I wish him the best and hopefully he can deliver what he has in other clubs because he’s had a phenomenal career already. I wish him all the best and hopefully he can get the club back to where we want.”

Meanwhile, Gheorghe Hagi is utterly convinced will see a new Ianis Hagi with added attacking intent when he returns to Rangers from his season-long loan with Alaves. The football icon is certain his son can bring a spark to any side further up the pitch.

Hagi senior said: “He’s an attacking player, it’s the defenders who have to defend, the midfielders have to do both phases and the forwards have to attack. It’s clear that you have to have the type of player that makes the difference. He is a striker and he has to create goals.

“He can play all three positions in attack, including the fake nine. It also depends on the coach what type of player he wants. Ianis can play any position in attack plus inter, because he has developed. He looks very good, every game he plays he looks very good. As I know him, he is a very serious player”
