Giannis Antetokounmpo, the star player for the Milwaukee Bucks, is focused on building a legacy of triumphs and titles rather than just highlight reels and individual accolades. The 28-year-old two-time MVP spoke with Marc Speaks of Andscape about his much-ballyhooed contract extension and made it clear that when considering any offers, winning will always be his top priority.

Giannis wants to be like TD and Kobe

Giannis aspires to have a career similar to that of Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant, two athletes whose names were forever associated with their respective teams. Bryant played for the Los Angeles Lakers for 20 seasons while Duncan played for the San Antonio Spurs for 19 seasons.

He doesn’t want to remain in Milwaukee and miss out on more championships, though. Giannis made clear that the priority is always winning.

Giannis told Andscape’s Marc J. Spears, “I always thought I’d stay in Milwaukee for a while.

“But when the time for your extension comes, it’s like, ‘Oh, he might leave.’ Not at all. This is untrue. I want the best team I can get. Every day when I go to work, I want to know that I have a chance to win when I wake up, Giannis said.

And I don’t want the organization to be at ease just because we won one [title]; I want everyone to be on the same page. So, how long are we going to wait to win another one—another 15 years? No way, no how. Every day, we are required to bring it. I make an effort to bring it as often as I can. I also anticipate the same behavior from anyone sitting next to me.
