According to Keith Jackson, Kevin Muscat and Philippe Clement have reached personal agreements with Rangers to lead the team as its new manager.
The Ibrox club is scheduled to resume play in one week after Michael Beale was fired, and the organisation is hoping to have a new manager in place by then.
A financial package has been agreed upon with both of the remaining candidates, according to reputable writer Jackson, who writes in the Daily Record (14 October), before a selection is made.
Key conversations between the Ibrox club and contenders Phillipe Clement and Kevin Muscat, according to ecord Sport, were still ongoing yesterday.
It is rumoured that both men have been questioned about a wide range of topics that could yet determine who would be the final man standing in a procedure that started almost two weeks ago.
We also know that the financial terms of each candidate have been worked out, so once Bennett and his board have decided on the preferred candidate, there shouldn’t be any obvious reason for additional delay.
It’s excellent that the club is treating this position seriously since, at this time, they simply cannot afford to make a mistake.
But we risk overanalyzing it and leaving the new manager little time to communicate his views to the team and players before the match against Hibernian.
We just cannot waste any more time, thus a decision must be made right away, and someone must kindly accept the blame.
The decision needs to be made immediately for the benefit of the club since someone has the last say and will have an opinion on who the superior candidate is.
The majority of people anticipate Clement to be chosen, but Muscat has undoubtedly complicated matters with his interviews and willingness to accept the position. Regardless of who it is, they have a big task ahead of them, but the public will support them and the board will have to do the same.
