Luton captain Tom Lockyer was stretchered off in the play-off final against Coventry having gone down without any other player near him. The Welsh centre-back was receiving oxygen from the physios before exiting the pitch early into the game at Wembley, as his parents came down from the stands to be by his side in the medical room before being transported to hospital.

Players had been ushered away from the physios as Lockyer was running backwards when he stumbled and bent his leg awkwardly after his studs got stuck in the turf.

His day ended much earlier than expected, having clutched his leg before being carefully loaded onto a stretcher and replaced by Reece Burke after a lengthy stoppage in the first half.

Lockyer’s team-mates looked worried as they feared that their skipper may have suffered a serious injury just 12 minutes into the game, as Sky Sports cameras panned away from the defender who continued to receive treatment.
