JUST IN: Luton Town’s star player acknowledges a catastrophic injury and believes he may die.

Luton Town defender Tom Lockyer collapsed to the turf during the Championship play-off final with fans left worried over his condition – as his parents rushed to his side in the changing room.

The 28-year-old was subbed off after only 12 minutes of their Premier League showdown against Coventry City with concerned players watching on as medical staff ran on to the Wembley pitch.

Sky Sports cameras turned away from the Wales international before he was placed on a stretcher and taken into the stadium as Reece Burke was subbed on by Rob Edwards – with an update on his condition then given to viewers at home.

A Sky Sports update said: “Tom Lockyer was taken off the pitch by the medical staff of both Wembley and Luton Town. He was conscious.”

It was added that his parents came down from the stands to be by his side, with Sky Sports adding at half-time that Lockyer was on his way to hospital.

One fan said: “That didn’t seem like a leg injury so very worrying to see a person fall down like that. We pray Tom Lockyer is ok.”

A second added: “Really scary man. Hoping Tom Lockyer is okay, get well soon.”

A third posted: “Horrible for the season to end like that for him today. Really hope he’s alright #LutonTown.”

Luton went into the game as slight favourites having finished 10 points above Mark Robbins’ side in the table, with only Burnley and Sheffield United above them.
