According to Mark Douglas at iNews, Newcastle United could be offered the chance to sign Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on loan in January.
We were linked with a move for the England international earlier in the summer, but the player preferred to fight for his place at the time, hoping to break into Pep Guardiola’s plans at the Etihad.
A few months on, Douglas reports that Phillips is ‘increasingly likely’ to leave in January after a recent snub, with Guardiola opting against using the former Leeds star despite holding midfielder Rodri missing the last three games through suspension.
Newcastle’s summer enquiry is mentioned in the piece and it seems we could rekindle our interest, with sources close to the situation expecting the 27-year-old to be available on loan.
There’ll be “plenty of interestâ€, however. Everton are also keen, West Ham were big admirers in the past, while there’s been tentative interest from Liverpool and Bayern Munich.
Ironically, Phillips’ only start this season came in Man City’s 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park, where Alexander Isak’s second half goal knocked the treble winners out in the third round.
With the club currently lacking a natural ‘No 6’, would you like to see us make a move if he does become available on loan?
