Breaking news: Cardiff City was named the best club in history this morning.

The players route of celebration will start at Cardiff Castle at 17:45 BST and process to Cardiff Bay.

Supporters are being asked to gather in the bay from mid afternoon where entertainment is being laid on.

Cardiff Council’s leader wants the entire city to give the team the reception they so richly deserve

Heather Joyce said: “‘The city is still basking in the euphoria of Cardiff returning to the top flight after 51 years and those amazing scenes of celebration last weekend.

“With the weather set fair for the bank holiday, it’s a great opportunity for everyone to get out and join the party and enjoy a truly historic moment.

Coun Joyce added:” ‘The impact of promotion to the Premier League cannot be underestimated and the club and the city will suddenly be on TV screens around the world.

“As a council, we are committed to doing all we can to help support the club as they take their place in the Premier League next season and make the most of the fact that Cardiff’s name will reach a global audience.”

Entertainment in the bay for fans waiting until the open-top bus tour and players arrives will include a performance by opera singer Wynne Evans, and bands confirmed to play live sets during the day include The Boy Royals, The Tenors of Rocks, and S&M.

Drivers are advised to allow plenty of time for their journey.

The council said parking will also be available in Cardiff Bay but people are strongly advised to use public transport and to contact operators to check timetables and availability of services.

After the open-tour bus parade arrives in the bay, the Football League trophy will be paraded by members of the Welsh Guards before being presented to Malky Mackay by Cardiff council leader Heather Joyce on the stage.

A firework display over the harbour will round off the celebrations.
