Bruno Guimaraes is one yellow card away from suspension after picking up his fourth caution of the season in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at West Ham.
As Premier League rules state, any Premier League player booked five times inside the first 19 league games will be suspended for one match, meaning the Brazilian is walking will be walking a tightrope in each of our next 11 games.
We play Crystal Palace a week on Saturday in our first game back after the international break. Should Bruno be booked in that game, he’d miss out trip to Wolves on 28th October. Should he escape a booking against Palace but receive one against Wolves, he would sit out our home game with Arsenal on Saturday 4th November.
This comes after Anthony Gordon missed yesterday’s game in East London after picking up his fifth booking of the season in our 2-0 win over Burnley.
In truth, Bruno was lucky to avoid red at West Ham, as he cynically brought down James Ward-Prowse just moments after he was booked at the London Stadium.
If (and probably when) Bruno gets his next yellow, let’s hope we have Joelinton and Joe Willock fit again, as our midfield options have looked a little light with both Joe’s on the sidelines.
The former Everton winger made headlines recently after his big-money to Newcastle late in the transfer window and it seems he’s back in the spot-light but this time for the wrong reasons.
On Monday, Gordon received a six-month disqualification for twice failing to disclose details of the driver of his car however was spotted behind the wheel just two day later.
According to the Sun, on Wednesday, the winger was pictured driving his £100,000 black Mercedes G-Wagon. His girlfriend was also present in the car.
Choosing to ignore a road ban can lead to up to six months in jail time for the offending party.
The outlet claim that Gordon was seen parked in Gateshead’s busy town centre outside the Hilton hotel during the day.
Two days after the incident, on Friday morning, it’s understood that Gordon’s girlfriend Anna Keating dropped him at Newcastle’s training ground.
Northumbria Police said: ‘As is standard practice, we wouldn’t confirm or deny the identity of anyone who may or may not be part of a police investigation and who has not been charged with a criminal offence.’
It’s not the first time in recent weeks that Gordon and his car have made headlines for off-pitch incidents.
Earlier this week, it was confirmed that Gordon had completed his £40million move to Newcastle after he told Everton he had no intention of returning to training at Finch Farm after missing a total of three days, the first of which was planned.
He infuriated fans over his conduct despite being a boyhood Everton fan and was chased in his car by a supporter following their 2-1 loss to Southampton.
Supporters took to the streets after the match to run after Gordon’s car, scream obscenities and tell him to ‘get out of our club’ – after team-mate Yerry Mina was also confronted and urged to ‘show a bit of heart’ in their relegation battle.
