Leeds United striker Rodrigo is set to join Qatar side Al Rayyan this week, with a medical ongoing for the Spaniard to leave Elland Road.
The Whites have plenty of business to attend to this week as they look to rebuild their side for a promotion bid in the Championship.
Outgoings have dominated the window so far for Daniel Farke’s side, with notable exits already sealed and more to come.
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that Rodrigo is closing in on a move to Qatar side Al Rayyan, with a deal agreed between both clubs and the player himself.
Rodrigo was always set to leave Leeds following relegation, having scored 13 league goals last season – ultimately not enough to keep the side in the top flight.
A medical is underway for the Spaniard to leave the club this week, with Romano revealing documents are drawn up for Rodrigo to sign:
A move to Al Rayyan would see Rodrigo link up with two former Premier League players in Steven Nzonzi and Sofiane Boufal, formerly of Stoke City and Southampton respectively.
It’s a shame we’re going to see Rodrigo effectively end his career early with a big payday because he was in with a good shout of the Euro’s squad with Spain next summer.
His form has been that of a player more than worth a move to a top side this summer, but you can’t blame him for taking what is going to be a big wage.
He’s at the stage where he needs to be looking out for his family and the most money possible is good for him.
Rodrigo is perhaps one of the only major departures this summer that is actually going to be a gutting loss.
