The IBF world flyweight title unification bout between interim champion Ginjiro Shigeoka and Mexican champion Daniel Valladares scheduled for Aug. 11 has been postponed after the Japanese boxer sustained a foot injury, the fight’s organizer said Thursday.
Shigeoka became interim champion in April with a ninth-round knockout of the Philippines’ Rene Mark Cuarto, which came three months after his title bout with Valladares was declared a no-contest due to an accidental head butt in the third round.
Shigeoka has not trained since last weekend due to his injury, as advised by his doctor. According to a source close to the situation, the fight will most likely be put out to October.
“I’m very sorry about it. “I’ll concentrate on recovering from my injury so that I can get back in the ring as soon as possible,” Shigeoka said via his gym.
Shigeoka is 9-0 with seven knockouts and one no-contest, while Valladares is 26-3-1 with fifteen knockouts and one no-contest.
