Sad news: Reading’s boss is concerned about how his club will perform without his best midfielder.

Reading FC midfielder Felipe Araruna is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after dislocating his right knee during the defeat at Kidderminster in the FA Cup.

The Brazilian came on as a substitute in the second half for Dejan Tetek at Aggborough but lasted less than two minutes before going down clutching his knee.

Araruna, who had to be stretchered off, was making just his second appearance since returning from a 16-month lay-off because of a knee injury suffered in September 2020.

It is now feared he will be missing for the next few months as he recovers from this latest setback.

“It doesn’t look good,” manager Veljko Paunovic said post match. “It’s a dislocation of his [knee joint] capsule. It looked horrible and he was devastated.

“It happened a few minutes after we conceded a goal and we were forced to make a change.

“The impact the injury had on the young players affected them and we were shut down – not by our opponent but Felipe who was coming back from more than a year out.

“He is very loved and one of the favourites in the changing room so that played a big part [in the defeat].”

Meanwhile, Alen Halilovic is also now back on the club’s list of injured players having left the field in the 40th minute.

Paunovic confirmed post match the Croat will miss Tuesday night’s Championship clash at home to Fulham and it is unclear how long he will be out for.
