During the first half of Cardiff City’s scoreless draw, Steven Fletcher had to be substituted.

After receiving a blow to the head during last night’s scoreless draw at Cardiff, Steven Fletcher will undergo a comprehensive evaluation by Stoke City’s medical staff.

During the first half, the striker was injured after he knocked down a cross from Jordan Thompson and struck the top of Ciaron Brown’s head. He received treatment on the pitch before being replaced by Sam Vokes.

After a few minutes, Fletcher, 33, was able to leave without incident, but due to concussion protocol, his night was over. He will now undergo testing to see whether he can play against Derby on Saturday.

According to revised EFL regulations, any player who has suffered a concussion is prohibited from returning to play or training until after being evaluated and given the all-clear by his team doctor.

Last night, Michael O’Neill stated: “He had to come off, he was knocked out, and it’s too early to say how he’s going to be for the weekend.”

Ryan Shawcross, the captain of Stoke City, appeared to injure his ankle during a preseason matchup against Leicester on Saturday. The injury, which happened as Shawcross was making a sliding clear in the first half of the game, is still being evaluated to determine its severity.

Before being taken away on a stretcher, Shawcross, 31, had several minutes of care on the pitch. Although Shawcross’s status has not yet been confirmed, Potters manager Nathan Jones told BBC Radio that “we think it’s something fairly serious.” The severity is unknown to us.
