Wolves fans have today been rocked by the news that Sasa Kalajdzic has suffered an ACL injury.
The club have put out a medical update today after the 25-year-old had to go off at half-time in yesterday’s 1-0 win over Southampton
Kalajdzic only joined Wolves earlier this week from Stuttgart.
He arrived before the 0-0 draw with Bournemouth, but did not feature at the Vitality Stadium.
But he was named in the starting XI on Saturday, with Raul Jimenez initially named on the bench before the Mexican injured his groin in the warm up and was replaced by Chem Campbell.
Fans had been desperately hoping that Kalajdzic’s injury wouldn’t be serious.
But it is the worst possible news.
Wolves say on the club’s official website: “Sasa felt a pain in his knee late in the first-half against Southampton. Unfortunately, scans reveal an anterior cruciate injury and he will see a knee specialist tomorrow.
“We now need to support Sasa in his recovery and further updates will follow.”
At this time, there is no indication on a possible return date.
Sasa Kalajdzic suffers the cruellest of blows when he sustains an ACL injury versus Southampton.
This is horrible news for Wolves and a tremendous blow for Kalajdzic, who now appears to be facing a protracted layoff.
Wolves definitely signed Kalajdzic to provide a fresh option up top after struggling to score goals.
Questions about the player’s signing will now be raised. Of course, Kalajdzic tore his ACL shortly after joining 2019. At the end of the day, it’s just bad luck, especially for something like this to happen so quickly.
There will now be some pressure on Goncalo Guedes to deliver.
The star can play through the middle, and needs to provide competition for Jimenez.
