Guimaraes has agreed a new deal to extend his stay at Newcastle until June 2028. The Brazilian’s new contract includes a release clause worth around £100m.

Guimaraes has attracted interest from teams such as Chelsea and Liverpool in the Premier League and even admitted to having “conversations” with Real Madrid last summer as the La Liga giants sought midfield reinforcements after losing Casemiro in Manchester United hand.
The new deal is expected to be announced by the club ahead of Newcastle’s Champions League home match with Paris Saint-Germain at St James’ Park. This will be the Magpies’ first Champions League match at St James’ Park in more than 20 years.
Eddie Howe’s side drew 0-0 in their opening group match against AC Milan last month, with Guimaraes playing the entire match. The 25-year-old will return to the squad to face PSG on Wednesday night (8pm kick-off).
