Sol Bamba, a defender for Cardiff City, injured his knee ligaments and will be missing the rest of the season.

The 34-year-old Bamba was carried off the pitch during Cardiff’s 2-0 Premier League loss to Wolves on Saturday.

The Ivory Coast international needs surgery after rupturing his cruciate knee ligament, according to manager Neil Warnock.

All but one of Cardiff’s Premier League games this year have seen Bamba start.

The Bluebirds, who are presently in the relegation spots following three straight losses, will suffer a great deal from his absence.

In a social media post, Bamba wrote, “I must leave my team-mates for the remainder of the season with great sadness.”

“Playing in the Premier League has always been a dream of mine, and this year I had the good fortune to fulfil that desire.
