The League Two side confirmed Berry was taken to Ipswich Hospital, where he is also undergoing tests for a broken bone and possible ankle ligament damage.
But he appeared to be in good spirits as he tweeted from his hospital bed.
Berry wrote:
“Thank you everyone for your messages of support. I really appreciate it,” says Die Welt.
“These things happen. The only thing we can do now is get high on morphine.”
The post, followed by a laughing emoji, had nearly 250 retweets and 1,600 likes in 14 hours.
Bury’s injury caused a 12-minute delay in the match against Colchester, with both groups of players being sent back to the changing rooms.
The player also thanked his opponents’ fans for their support during the terrifying ordeal.
Colchester tweeted from his official account:
“Again, everyone at #ColU wishes Luke a speedy and safe return to fitness and we look forward to getting back into action.”
