After winning Argentina’s Primera Division with River, as well as the Copa Sudamerica and Copa Libertadores, Marcelo Gallardo won 14 titles and finished with a statue in front of the Estadio Monumental.

Linked with Ligue 1 giants PSG since April, Marcelo Gallardo is perhaps the biggest name mentioned in Rangers’ upcoming coaching role.

But while we don’t want to be the bearers of bad news – or burst anyone’s bubble – the link with the former Monaco, PSG and Argentina international midfielder seems a bit roundabout.
Rangers are looking for a new manager after sacking Michael Beale

I wasn’t surprised when the Rangers got rid of Beale. Results and form in the Scottish Premiership this season have been very poor.

Rangers contacted Frank Lampard
And although Celtic are currently above Rangers in the table, it’s only the beginning of October and I think the Gers could still catch them with someone other than Beale instead.

One of the coaches linked to Rangers is Chelsea legend Frank Lampard.
From what we understand, the origins of Rangers mentioned along with former River boss Marcelo Gallardo were in an article about ‘potential candidates’ in the Daily Record.

For context, the list also includes former Chelsea manager Graham Potter – who has since left his post – and Steven Gerrard’s former Ibrox assistant Gary McAllister. This story was later reblogged by the Sky Sports live blog, which claimed Marcelo Gallardo was “in the frame” to become the next Rangers manager alongside Kevin Muscat and Pascal Jansen.

This was later reported by Argentine media, with TNT Sports Argentina citing the Sky Sports link in a tweet about Marcelo Gallardo and Rangers.
The circle will then be completed when the Daily Record, seemingly the source of the rumor, will look into Argentina’s claims!

On their live blog (February 10:

While most Rangers fans admit the links are ambitious, these Marcelo Gallardo reports appear to have little merit and, as things stand, we’re not sure he’s involved or not.
