With the recent sale of centre Robert Williams III and guard Malcolm Brogdon to the Portland Trail Blazers for guard Jrue Holiday, the Boston Celtics are revamping their roster.
Williams’ departure has reduced the team’s size, so they are turning to a former Los Angeles Laker for assistance.
Shams Charania of The Athletic reported on October 1 that the Celtics have agreed to a deal with free agency forward/center Wenyen Gabriel.
Gabriel, who participated in 68 games, spent all of the 2022–23 season and a portion of the 2021–22 season with the Lakers in Los Angeles. Although he only scored 5.5 points per game on average, he made 59.6% of his shots last season and thus scored more frequently than not. His quickness and length on the defensive side of the ball will be his key contributions.
The Celtics will mostly need Gabriel to step up on defence since Williams’ move cost them an outstanding defender.
Rob Pelinka Praises LeBron James’ Work Ethic
Although LeBron James is starting his 21st season in the NBA, he still doesn’t appear to be slowing down. Last season, he scored 28.9 points per game on average, earning Third Team All-NBA honours. James still aspires to perform at an All-Star level as Year 21 begins.
Rob Pelinka, the general manager, claims that James has been putting in a lot of effort this summer.
In his press conference on September 28, Pelinka remarked of James, “It’s staggering for a player who has 20 years under the hood already and is preparing for 21 like he’s a rookie. He has been working out at 6 a.m. I’ve been in our building more than any other player this offseason, I think. has spent as much time in the weight room as any player. LeBron has generally set the tone for every team he has ever played for.
Nothing except an increase in seeing that here has occurred. It seems to be saying, “Let’s deal with it, let’s not talk about it.” He has undoubtedly been active during the offseason.
Rob Pelinka Talks Anthony Davis’ New Contract
LeBron James will turn 39 in December, but he’s still expected to be a useful player for the Lakers this season. The 30-year-old Anthony Davis must assume the role of best player for the squad. This offseason, Los Angeles granted him a contract extension, and Rob Pelinka had no objections to that.
The subject of the meeting, according to Pelinka, was “We Want to Commit to You, But We Want You to Commit to Us.” And one of the topics we discussed with him in that conversation was how to become the hardest worker and best leader, and he really achieved that this offseason. … He has been working out more this offseason than I ever saw him as a Laker. He has assumed that leadership role, and I believe he is aware that if the franchise makes an investment in him—as we did this summer—he will repay it. That’s simply how he is.
Although Davis’ work ethic has previously been questioned, head coach Darvin Ham assured supporters and the media that the big man entered training camp in excellent condition.
Ham, who was seated next to Pelinka during the news conference, claimed that “he came back leaner, stronger, quicker, and more explosive.” “People overlook the fact that he is only 30. Therefore, he still has a very long way to go before he can take charge of this organisation and, perhaps, raise additional banners.
