With a 5-0 win over Burnley Belvedere yesterday, our Academy side advanced to the next round of the Lancashire Youth Cup.

It was an excellent performance, particularly in the first half, when the lads led 4-0.

Burnley surged into the game more in the second half, but the home goalie was in top form and there was no way past him.

Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support for the lads.

The Clarets were finally defeated 2-0 by Eddie Howe’s side at St James’ Park on Saturday, thanks to goals in each half from Miguel Almiron and Alexander Isak.

Burnley did start the game strongly, with Zeki Amdouni coming close inside the first 10 minutes, but former Nick Pope came to Newcastle’s rescue.

If that shot had gone in, the game could have ended very differently.

“That’s the most important thing,” Kompany stated.

“When you play in these big games, you need a little luck and you have to take your chances.” You’ll need those ingredients.

“Okay, it didn’t happen right away, but I think it’s important for us to believe that our performances will lead to results, and I think we showed a lot of good signs in the parts of the game that people associate with good sides.”

“Off the ball, we worked hard, we defended the box really well, and we won a lot of second balls.” We had our moments, and whether we had the ball or not, we were able to create our moments, and that’s something you can build on.”

Burnley has had a terrible start to the season, having lost five of their first six games, leaving them with only one point.

It sets up a crucial match against Luton Town on Tuesday night, following the Hatters’ first-ever Premier League victory over Everton.

“I could have told you that when the calendar came out,” Kompany said of the game’s significance.

“The first eight games were against City, United, Tottenham, Newcastle, Villa, and Chelsea…As a recently promoted squad, I’m not that foolish to believe it’s not going to be this way.

“However, we performed admirably against Forest, as well as against United and today.”

“Everyone knows we just want to get a result against Luton.” We believe we can get victories against Luton, and we believe we can get success against teams like them in the future.”
