Luton Town manager Rob Edwards was understandably disturbed by his team’s inability to score against League One Exeter City in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday night.

The Hatters have found it more difficult to score goals in the Premier League this season, which is understandable given the big jump up in quality from the Championship.

Mads Andersen’s stoppage-time header against West Ham United is Town’s lone goal from open play in five games, with the other two coming from Carlton Morris penalties.

After defeating League Two Gillingham 3-1 in the previous round, Luton Town traveled to St James Park yesterday to face a Grecians side that had been beaten 3-0 at Oxford on Saturday, while a young City side had been thrashed 9-0 by Reading in the EFL Trophy just seven days earlier.Town had begun strongly in Devon, with keeper Viljami Sinisalo tipping over Luke Berry’s long-range effort, the woodwork preventing Cauley Woodrow from scoring his second of the season, and Elijah Adebayo also stopped by the home stopper.

Following that, the visitors went on to have over 80 percent possession at one point in the first half, eventually finishing with 67 percent by the end of the game, but it wasn’t until Jacob Brown came on midway through the second half that Luton forced Sinisalo into action again, the Scottish international heading straight at the keeper from Ryan Giles’ left wing cross.
