Wrexham AFC

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has stated that Rob Lainton will be out for an extended period of time.
So far this season, Wrexham have been without a goalie. He is now undergoing treatment for a knee injury.

Lainton, 33, has been on the Racecourse Ground’s roster since 2018. To date, the stopper has made 145 appearances for the Welsh club.

According to the Evening Leader, Parkinson has issued an update on his situation: “Rob’s still not making the progress we would have liked with his knee.” He is not where he needs to be right now. Rob’s situation is tough, but we hope to see him back on the practice field in the coming weeks.”

Blow for Wrexham

Lainton has suffered a string of injuries recently, but Wrexham have remained with him. The goalkeeper will be eager to return to full fitness as soon as possible in order to reclaim the number one slot.

Mark Howard, Arthur Okonkwo, and Luke McNicholas are the Red Dragons’ current goalkeeper options. Ben Foster and Rory Watson have both left the club since the end of the previous season.

Lainton joined Wrexham on loan from Port Vale before being made permanent shortly afterwards. He appeared in nine games last season, six of which were in the National League as Parkinson’s side was promoted back to the Football League.

The Mancunian began his career at Bolton Wanderers but never played for them at the senior level. He later played for Bury, Burton Albion, and Cheltenham Town.Rob Lainton: Wrexham goalkeeper's career was under threat - Phil Parkinson - BBC Sport
