Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe is concerned that Anthony Gordon is only one yellow card away from receiving a one-match suspension.
The former Everton winger has been one of the Magpies’ standout performances this season, with a goal and an assist in yesterday’s record-breaking 8-0 Premier League win over Sheffield United.
Given Gordon’s magnificent performance, it’s easy to forget that he didn’t start the game. Harvey Barnes was given his second United start but left after 11 minutes due to a toe injury. After the game, Howe admitted that “it didn’t look too good” for Barnes, making it even more important that Gordon remains available at least until the former Leicester City star returns.
“Of course it’s a concern, yeah,” Howe said of Gordon’s disciplinary status. “Injuries in one position will be a problem for us this year.” We’ve been missing two midfielders, which has been a source of anxiety for us. We will not take the loss of Harvey lightly. “Suspensions are something we’ll have to deal with to some extent.
