Brendan Rodgers provides Celtic injury update on player and Cameron big named player

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers admits he is still waiting to see how Nat Phillips is recovering ahead of Saturday’s Premiership clash with Livingston after he missed the midweek defeat to Feyenoord.

The on loan Liverpool centre back lasted just 45 minutes on his debut against Dundee last week after rolling his ankle and was replaced by Gustaf Lagerbielke, who was then sent off in the Champions League. He is available for this weekend’s clash with Livingston as is Liam Scales but Celtic are down to the barebones at the back and Phillips being available would be a huge boost to the Hoops.

And he’ll be given every opportunity to prove his fitness but Rodgers admitted it’s still touch and go and he’s unsure if he will be able to include him in the team for the trip to the Tony Macaroni Arena for the live TV game on Saturday afternoon while he also confirmed that Cameron Carter-Vickers is still on track to return in October.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: “We’ll see how Nat Phillips is. He rolled his ankle quite badly next week so we’ll see how he is. We’ve still got another 24 hours to go before we make the team. Everyone else is okay. Reo Hatate got more game time and is fighting to fitness but it was good to get him on the field.

“Apart from that everyone else [is] okay. Reo Hatate got more game time [against Feyenoord] and is still finding his way through to fitness, but it was good to get him on the field and play. But other than that there were no other injuries.”
