The Leeds United players put in a spirited performance as they earned a draw at Hull City despite being reduced to 10 men on Wednesday (20 September).

Although Daniel Farke’s men were the better side across the game after limiting the Tigers to very few chances, he will be pleased with some aspects of what he saw in the goalless draw in East Yorkshire
Here, MOT Leeds News rates the Leeds players out of 10 for their performances in the Championship fixture, with plenty of players showing battling displays on their way to earning a point.
Illan Meslier – 6
Had very little to do in the first half, as Hull failed to have a single shot on target. That continued after the break as the keeper was largely untested even after Rodon was sent off. It shows he must have been communicating well with his defenders as they continue to look reasonably organised – red card aside – at the back.
the early stages, but he quickly grew into the game and looked strong defensively in the first half. The right-back was involved offensively in the first minute of the second half, playing a neat one-two with Dan James that resulted in the winger getting a shot away at goal. Got away with one when he gave the ball away on the edge of the area leading to a Hull chance. Had a superb chance of his own on 58 minutes when coming in off the right, but he blasted his effort well over the bar. Helped steady the ship after the sending-off.
e RJoodon – 3
The defender was superb in the first half, once again setting the tone and winning just about everything that came his way. He received a soft yellow card towards the end of the first half and was then sent off after making a poor decision to bring down a Tigers player on the halfway line on 60 minutes. Rodon was solid up until that point, but he can’t be taking those risks to land his teammates in trouble.
Pascal Struijk – 7
Didn’t give Hull a sniff in the opening 45 minutes, proving once again that he is building up a strong partnership with Rodon. That partnership was broken up after his teammate was sent off, but he continued to play well despite the setback and showed great leadership.
ckleJamie Shaton – 6
Shackleton looked solid throughout the game after coming in for Sam Byram at left-back. He went about his business well and was a little bit under the radar as he looked to provide an outlet down the left and showed good composure on the ball.
Archie Gray – 6
Had a left-footed effort that just went wide of the post towards the end of the first half. Perhaps didn’t impose himself on the game as much as he would have liked, but he didn’t really do too much wrong over the course of the game.
Ethan Ampadu – 6
The midfielder wasn’t quite as imposing as he was in the win over Millwall at the weekend, but he was still solid in the middle of the park. He once again did the dirty work that has come to be expected of him and he let very little get past him to threaten his centre-backs behind him. He didn’t offer too much going forward.
Dan James (Off for Anthony ’63) – 4
The winger didn’t really have much involvement in the game in the opening 45 minutes but came to life in the early stages of the second half. James played a neat one-two down the right with Ayling before seeing a shot blocked on its way towards goal. After earning his place in the side with a quality performance off the bench against Millwall, he didn’t do enough in the game this evening.
Joel Piroe (Off for Cooper ’63) – 4
Piroe was pretty anonymous in the first half, with his only opportunity coming when the ball bounced around the area and he snatched at a chance. He didn’t have much impact in the second half either, as it’s hard to really remember him doing much of anything before being taken off following the Rodon red card.
Willy Gnonto (Off for Summerville ’21) – 5
The winger didn’t do too much in the early stages of the game before he was subbed off for Cyrsencio Summerville with an injury midway through the half.
Georginio Rutter – 5
Rutter missed a huge chance on 25 minutes when he went through one-on-one with Ryan Allsop, with the keeper doing well to turn his low effort around the post. He did very little in the game after this point but did put a lot of effort in leading the line on his own after the sending-off.
Substitutes
Crysencio Summerville (On for Gnonto ’21) – 7
The winger was extremely bright after coming off the bench for Willy Gnonto on 21 minutes, raising the tempo for his side. He quickly set up an opportunity for Rutter with a lovely ball through in behind the defence before testing Allsop with a couple of long-range efforts in the first half. Started the second period brightly and got Scott Twine booked. Summerville continued to be Leeds’ best attacking outlet across the half and showed why he should be in the starting lineup for the next game.
Jaidon Anthony (On for James ’63) – 5
It was difficult coming on with the side down to 10 men, as he didn’t have much of an impact.
Liam Cooper (On for Piroe ’63) – 6
The Leeds captain did well to calm things down and didn’t give away too much after coming on for Piroe.
Sam Byram (On for Ayling ’90) – N/A
