The Rangers boss saw Matondo slot home Rangers’ second goal to wrap up all three points at McDiarmid Park.

The Welshman blazed in behind the St Johnstone defence before calmly slotting home to secure a Rangers victory.

Danilo had put Rangers 1-0 up in the first half, picking up a nasty head injury in the process.

Matondo then put the seal on the win, leading to real praise from Rangers boss Beale

Beale suggested that Matondo made a ‘big impact’ against St Johnstone and was delighted for him having clinically taken his chance.

Beale admitted that Matondo has missed chances like that before, so seeing him keep his cool and find the net was great to see.

“Delighted for Rabbi because he’s come on in games and had a big impact and has missed that type of chance before,” said Beale.

Beale had already seen Abdallah Sima squander a fairly similar chance in the first half before also firing one wide late on.

Seeing Matondo finish his chance is just what Rangers needed in that moment, killing the game off and avoiding any late drama

This hasn’t been a great start to the season for Rangers and Beale would probably admit that this 2-0 win wasn’t exactly vintage Rangers.

There have been some bright spots though and Matondo is certainly one of them.

The former Manchester City talent was seen as a flop last season having made little impact after his £3million move from Schalke.

We are now starting to see Matondo gain momentum though having already bagged two goals and one assist in seven games this season.

The 23-year-old still has a long way to go; he needs to find consistency and make sure that calm finish against St Johnstone wasn’t a one-off.UEFA Champions League Play-offs, 2nd legPSV Eindhoven v Rangers FC

If he can do that, Matondo will end up proving decent value for money after all.
