Goals from Chloe Craig, Shen Menglu and a double from Jenny Smith pushed Fran Alonso’s side towards victory and a seventh win from the first seven league matches.

Celtic were narrowly pipped to the title last season by Glasgow City but, despite high player turnover, have started this term in superb form and have now scored 41 goals across those seven games – an average of close to six per match.

The team suffered heartache with a penalty shoot-out defeat away to Valerenga in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last weekend but are firmly back in business after beating Hearts midweek and following that up with today’s result.

The team sit second in the league table, one point behind leaders Rangers, but have a game in hand. They are currently two points clear of champions City.

Tougher tests are ahead, of course. There is now an international break in the women’s game and Celtic aren’t scheduled to be back in action until Thursday 5th October. And it’s a big one at home to City.

That test will tell us a lot about this Celtic side’s current status and quality. A victory would be a huge statement of intent heading deeper into the season and kick off a massive month in superb fashion.
