I would be scared Club told to fear Brighton Seagulls now a model club in Europe

Ajax have been told that they should fear Brighton and Hove Albion, who are now one of the model clubs in Europe.

That’s according to journalist Geert Langendorff, who believes the Seagulls could prove to be dangerous opposition for the Dutch giants.

Brighton are set to take on Ajax at the end of October, hosting the Eredivisie side at home in matchday three of the Europa League groups stages.

The two have been paired together, alongside Marseille and AEK, in Group B of the competition in what should prove to be one of the more hotly contested groups in it.

Brighton will be among the favourites to qualify for the knockout stages following their impressive season under Roberto De Zerbi last year and an even more impressive start to this season that’s seen them pick up nine points from four games in the Premier League so far.

They’re now considered as one of the most exciting sides in Europe, bolstered by a transfer strategy that continues to identify top talent to be developed.

And both of those factors mean Ajax should be wary of them when the pair meet in the Europa League next month according to Langendorff.

“Brighton has now become a model club in Europe. They are at the forefront of scouting. Thanks to this scouting, they know how to form a structurally good team every year,” he said.

“There is an eighteen-year-old Irishman, Evan Ferguson, who had to make do with a few substitute appearances last season, but he has now immediately scored a hat-trick.

“Then you have Billy Gilmour, the great Scottish talent. Things didn’t work out at Chelsea, but he’s brightening up at Brighton. Then they also bring in Ansu Fati from Barcelona.

“If I were Ajax I would be scared, because all Premier League clubs are too.

“With Ferguson at centre forward they have found another diamond, being the only player ever in the Premier League to score a hat-trick at that age.”
