The Sunderland teenager Chris Rigg is reportedly being watched by Newcastle United, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, as the Magpies continue to pursue some of the nation’s top prospects.

Jacobs told Give Me Sport that Newcastle making a play for the 16-year-old is something to keep an eye on in the upcoming transfer windows.

Chris Rigg has undoubtedly established himself as one of the Championship’s most intriguing prospects. Two goals have already been scored by the teenager this year, one of which was in the decisive 5-0 victory over Southampton just before the international break.

Naturally, Newcastle’s squad has not been completely revamped by superstar acquisitions as many had anticipated when the takeover occurred. They have made several high-profile additions, including the acquisitions of Sandro Tonali and Harvey Barnes this summer.

Undoubtedly keeping an eye on Rigg is Newcastle.

However, they have also added a number of excellent young players, including Lewis Hall and Tino Livramento, who have moved to St. James’ Park.

Additionally, Rigg has been mentioned by Jacobs as another player Newcastle may try to sign soon.
“It’s one to watch, for sure,” he said to Give Me Sport. Even though he supports Sunderland, the majority of his family also supports Newcastle. I believe that one might be one to keep an eye on in January. Newcastle is simultaneously preparing for the future and the present.

“Newcastle has made a few bids to secure young players in the market and has outperformed competitors in doing so. Rigg, who is now only 16 years old, is considered one of the finest midfield talents in the nation. Last weekend, he scored a goal against Southampton. When he scored, he also set a new record for Sunderland’s youngest league scorer. The player side won’t want to rush into anything, though, as he needs time and playing time to grow as well.Chris Rigg - Special Talent - YouTube

The fact that Newcastle and Manchester United are both keeping an eye on things, though, is beyond a shadow of a doubt.

Naturally, Sunderland won’t give up Rigg without a fight, especially if Newcastle makes a move for the young player.

But for the Black Cats to win the Championship this year, they have a tremendously difficult challenge ahead of them. And if Rigg is receiving Premier League bids, they might be in for a challenge.

However, he only just turned 16 this past summer. He shouldn’t be pushing to join the Premier League right away. If he keeps moving in the same direction, that opportunity will present itself.

However, it is obvious that many players would find it extremely difficult to decline Newcastle at this time.
