Luton Town boss Rob Edwards has confirmed the club are in talks with Manchester United defender Teden Mengi.

The Manchester Evening News understands the academy product is today completing his move to the Hatters in a permanent move. Mengi made his senior debut in the Europa League in 2020 and made just one more appearance.
The centre-back, who has suffered two serious injuries in the past 18 months, has spent time on loan at Derby County and Birmingham City in recent years. Luton are monitoring the progress of the 21-year-old, who has made two appearances in Premier League 2 this season.

Ahead of Luton’s Premier League home opener at Kenilworth Road on Friday against West Ham, Edwards confirmed Mengi is in talks with the club. He told reporters:
“He is someone we love. Discussions are underway at the moment, but I have nothing to report.

“Before it’s all over, I have to be honest, I don’t want to talk about anyone’s players. He’s someone we like, but I don’t want to go into details right now if you don’t do it. If we can go further, I will give you more.
Meanwhile, some other young people may leave the club. Alvaro Fernandez could leave on loan, as could Hannibal Mejbri, although it is understood the midfielder intends to stay at United for the time being. Meanwhile, Marc Jurado could leave permanently with a number of clubs interested in the Spanish right-back. Charlie McNeill is set to join Stevenage on loan after spending time at Newport County last season, where he scored his first goal for the first team.
The League One side are looking for a new striker to replace Sam Nombe after he left Rotherham.

Jack Aitchison and Nombe have taken turns leading the Exeter team since the beginning of the season, so Nombe’s departure has left a hole for Gary Caldwell’s team.

Muskwe has not made a single appearance for Luton since the start of the 2023/24 season, when coach Rob Edwards prioritized attacking duo Elijah Adebayo and Carlton Morris. Muskwe joined Luton in 2021 from Leicester City, but he has struggled to find a regular place in the squad since the transfer was completed.

He spent the first half of the 2022/23 season on loan at Fleetwood Town, where he scored three goals in 12 league appearances.Manchester United give injury update on Teden Mengi - Manchester Evening News
